Moorgate performance – ceilidh on Saturday 10th May 2008 at Glasson Dock Village Hall, 7.30pm – 11.30pm,  being a benefit to raise money for the school playground

Glasson Dock village school is small; very small in fact with only 26 pupils.  The school staff, children, parents and friends are busily trying to raise some £7000 to purchase more play equipment for the playground and, with so few people involved, this is no easy task.  Happily the well-respected ceilidh band Moorgate has agreed to help out by playing at a special fund-raising ceilidh in the village on Saturday May 10th.

Guitarist with the band, Tony Cooke, has family connections in Glasson Dock and has two nephews attending the school.  He said “The band is not able to perform in public very often - due largely to the other commitments of individual band members.  However, after a long search we managed to find a date which suited all of us, the village hall and the school’s fund-raisers.  We are also delighted that once again we have persuaded the wonderful Cumbrian dance caller Debbie Kermode to work with us and help everyone through the dances.”

Moorgate comprises Richard Robinson (clarinet), Simon Booth (melodeon and harmonica) and Tony Cooke (guitar) who are all well-known to folk followers and players in the District.  They have a wealth of experience in playing traditional music around the North of England with various bands (such as Free Reed Band, Ran Tan Band, One Foot in the Gutter, Shake A Leg) and together as Moorgate they claim to be “the complete ceilidh band”.  The music the band plays comes from all over Great Britain as well as other parts of Europe and the USA.  Richard says “The music we choose has strong melodies, subtle harmonies and traditional dance rhythms so they all work really well for dancing.  We also choose the tunes, of course, because we like them”.

Tickets for the Glasson Dock event cost £7.50 (£5 concessions) and include a Hot Pot Supper may be obtained from Glasson Village Store or Glasson School, or by ringing (01524) 751370 or (01524) 35341
